The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start on Saturday and lost at Lock Haven, 57-45, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (14-10, 10-8 PSAC) was limited to single digits in the first quarter and third quarter by Lock Haven (10-12, 7-11). The Bald Eagles never trailed, using an 8-2 run late in the second quarter to lead by 10 points at halftime.
In the fourth quarter, the Raiders shot 40 percent from the field but the Bald Eagles shot 50 percent from the field, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson led the Raiders with 20 points. She added six rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Junior
Lauren Mills contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Junior
Lauren Pettis had a team high of seven rebounds to go along with eight points and four blocks. Redshirt-junior
Erin Gibbons totaled three assists and two blocks.
Lock Haven posted a 45-32 rebound advantage over Shippensburg. Jaynelle Robinson, one of the Bald Eagles celebrating their Senior Day, contributed a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds. Off the bench, Brooke Lawyer added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds along with four assists.
Shippensburg will travel to West Chester on Monday night for a
5:30 p.m. tip at Hollinger Field House.
