The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not match Gannon's second-half surge on Monday night, dropping a 65-48 decision at Gannon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game at Highmark Events Center.
Shippensburg (8-2, 3-1PSAC) had two players in double figures. Junior
Treasure George led the team with her second career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. George added three assists and a block.
Senior
Lauren Pettis had a team-high of 12 rebounds and added 12 points for her fourth double-double of this season. Fellow senior
Ariel Jones was held to only eight points. This is the first time Jones has been held below double digits in scoring since Nov. 24, 2019, at Edinboro. Jones still added four rebounds and two steals. Graduate
Erin Gibbons added eight points and had two rebounds.
Gannon (10-2, 3-2) outrebounded and outscored the Raiders from beyond the arc with a 32-24 rebound advantage and 31.8 percent three-point shooting. The Raiders and Golden Knights were evenly matched in the first half, with both GU only ahead by three points by halftime.
Gannon took advantage of a 13-3 run in the first four minutes of the third quarter and never allowed the Raiders to come back in. SU also struggled to score with four of the starting lineup in the early foul trouble by the end of the third quarter. However, by the fourth quarter, GU went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and ran away with the victory.
Shippensburg will go into holiday break and will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 30, against Clarion at Heiges Field House.
