SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team bounced back on Saturday with a convincing performance against No. 10 IUP, handing the Crimson Hawks a 6-1 loss on Senior Day at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (13-2, 6-2 PSAC) honored Paige Bond, Merel Hoekstra, Maura Mears and team manager Kristen Zellner in a pre-game ceremony and established early momentum in the game when Hoekstra slammed home a pass from sophomore Tess Jedeloo to capitalize on a penalty corner and give the Raiders a 1-0 lead less than three minutes in.

The Raiders led 2-0 at halftime and 3-1 after three quarters before a three-goal outburst in the fourth quarter helped put the game away.

SU was able to expertly link passes up the field throughout the match, resulting in 16 penalty corners. The Raiders also finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Freshman Agus Garibaldi scored three times and handed out an assist on the game's final tally. It was Garibaldi's second hat trick and second seven-point game of the season; she also had three goals and one assist in the Sept. 9 victory over Newberry.

Sophomore Yasmin De Meyer scored in the final minute of the second quarter to give SU a 2-0 lead entering the intermission. Freshman Lilly Cantabene, who assisted De Meyer's goal, scored the game's final goal off Garibaldi's assist. The opportunity was set up by a feed from De Meyer after a long pass out of the SU zone by Mears.

Freshman Savannah Silvestre and sophomore Ashley Button each had assists on a Garibaldi goal.

Lindsay Tripodo and Emma Albee combined for four saves in the victory.

IUP (9-7, 3-5) got its team-leading 12th goal of the season from Jess Davidson, while goalkeepers Brooke Eberly and Amanda Zaner combined for seven saves.

On Monday, SU will host No. 8 Converse at 11 a.m. for a match that was re-scheduled from September. It will conclude a stretch of three matches in five days against nationally-ranked opponents.
