RECAP: No. 2 Field Hockey downs Mercyhurst, 5-0, earns No. 2 seed in PSAC Playoffs

SU awaits winner of Millersville vs. Bloomsburg

The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated Mercyhurst, 5-0, to end its regular season and secure the No. 2 seed in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Saxon Stadium.

Shippensburg (15-2, 7-2 PSAC) had five goals from five different players. Freshman Plinke Hillen opened the scoring up with a reverse hit goal into the right corner of the cage. Fellow freshman Lilly Cantabene scored less than a minute after the first goal. Cantabene found the back of the cage after drawing the goalkeeper out of position and sliding it to the left side of the cage.

Sophomore Chloe Prettyman scored her fourth goal of the season off a deflection shot by Cantabene from the penalty corner. Sophomore Tess Jedeloo scored her goal after intercepting a Mercyhurst (2-15, 0-9) defender and taking the goalkeeper out of position, scoring into an open cage.

Sophomore Jocelyn Branco topped the evening off with a rocket shot from the penalty corner insert by senior Maura Mears.

Shippensburg showed no mercy and had 23-0 shots on goal, with a 9-1 penalty corner advantage. Sophomore Lindsay Tripodo and sophomore Emma Albee shared the shutout, while Mercyhurst goalkeeper, Kayla Desormeau, made 18 saves.

Shippensburg will travel to Kutztown on Friday for the PSAC Semifinal matchup, with the opponent the winner of Tuesday's match between Bloomsburg vs. Millersville.
