Clabaugh and Sterenberg post double-digit kills

The Shippensburg University volleyball team came back from a slow start to outhit Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory in four sets at Thomas Field House. Set scores were 22-25, 25-16, 25-6 and 25-14.

Shippensburg (16-11, 8-4 PSAC East) had two players with double-digit kills. Sophomore Maddie Clabaugh and junior Jackie Sterenberg each had 11 kills to just one error. Clabaugh added two block assists and two digs while Sterenberg had seven digs.

Freshman Kearstin Davis was one assist shy away from reaching 40 or more assists for the seventh time this season, finishing with a team-high 39 assists in addition to five digs and two aces.  Freshman Erica Lampus had a team-high 21 digs and contributed three assists. Senior Oyinda Agbale had a team high of five block assists, while sophomore Kat Negron stuffed the stat sheet with seven kills, two assists, five aces and four block assists.

The Raiders started off slow and allowed Lock Haven (1-22, 1-11) to take the first set 25-22. The Raiders trailed 20-13 and got to 22-20 but were unable to find a way to tie the set. In the second set, better passing and hitting from the Raiders saw themselves on a 7-2 run to take the frame and even the match.

SU dominated the third, as the Raiders had an 8-0 run at the start. Shippensburg only had one error and hit .500, the best single set hitting percentage of the season. The team's overall .307 hitting percentage is the second best in a match this season (against Jefferson, SU hit .311). It is also the lowest set score against the Raiders this season.

In the fourth set, SU had a 16-4 lead and had 16 kills with only three errors. Freshman Isabelle Bombas added two kills and a block assist, while freshman Kayla Johnson had a kill and a block assist.

Shippensburg will be back at home next weekend for its last two regular season home games and will celebrate Senior Day on Friday and Saturday as well as celebrate Coach Leanne Piscotty's 400th career win. The Raiders will take on Millersville at 7 p.m. Friday at Heiges Field House.
