The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated Frostburg State, 5-1 in a non-conference matchup at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday night.
Shippensburg (11-1) had five goals from three different players. Sophomore
Tess Jedeloo scored two goals, the first and last goals of the game. Jedeloo opened the game up with a goal after a minute of play, a reverse hit from the top of the circle. Her second goal came was also another reverse hit with nine minutes left in play.
Frostburg State (7-8) tied the game in the first quarter with a goal from Femke Hofkamp, but the Raiders answered back in the second quarter with a rocket hit from freshman
Agus Garibaldi off a penalty corner insert by fellow freshman
Savannah Silvestre.
Silvestre then scored her own goal off a defensive save by a Bobcat to make it 3-1 Raiders heading into halftime. Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, sophomore
Mya Kemp intercepted a ball in the circle from a Bobcat defender and scored from the right-hand side to make it 4-1.
SU outshot Frostburg 16-5 and had a 13-2 penalty corners advantage.
Shippensburg will host Bloomsburg on Saturday at noon for a conference matchup.
