SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team put forth an excellent effort in its final match of the fall but came up short against visiting California (Pa.), dropping a 6-1 decision to the Vulcans on a cold and windy afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (1-3) began the match with a win in the No. 2 doubles flight, as the pairing of
Kendall Winters and
Sahar Islam finished ahead by a 6-4 score. California (2-2) claimed the doubles point, however, by virtue of a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles and a default win at No. 3 doubles. Â

SU was especially competitive in each of its singles matches, with four of the five contested flights resulting in championship tiebreakers. Freshman
Katelyn Hanft endured a marathon match at No. 5 singles to achieve her first collegiate victory, defeating Anna O'Block by a score of 6-1, 6-7 (7-5) and 10-4 in the tiebreaker.

Winters dropped the first set at No. 3 singles, 6-2, before rallying to take the second set, 6-2. She dropped the tiebreaker, 10-7.
Â
At No. 4 singles, Islam won the first set 6-2, but Kylie Feltenberger evened the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. Feltenberger claimed that championship tiebreaker, 10-6.

Senior
Brighid Cantwell overcame a rough first set to win the second set at No. 2 singles, 6-4. Her opponent Carmen Duran claimed the championship tiebreaker, 10-3.

Sophomore
