RECAP: No. 2 Field Hockey rallies to win at No. 9 Mansfield, 3-1

SU gets goals from Jedeloo, Prettyman and Cantabene

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to take a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win at No. 9 Mansfield on Saturday afternoon at Van Norman Field, 3-1.

Shippensburg (9-1, 3-1) took control in the second half and tied the game within thirty seconds of the start of the third quarter on a tight reverse hit by sophomore Tess Jedeloo off a pass from sophomore Mya Kemp (Delmar, Del./Delmar).

The Raiders did not let Mansfield (6-6, 1-3) have any shots in the second half and only allowed two second-half penalty corners after the Mountaineers had 13 shots, nine shots on goal and five penalty corners in the first half.

The second goal came from a long hard-hit pass from senior Merel Hoekstra to sophomore Ashley Button, who was able to find a free freshman Lilly Cantabene at the top of the circle, who then drew out the Mansfield goalkeeper August Lewis, allowing sophomore Chloe Prettyman to finish it off with a deflection goal. This is Prettyman's second game-winning goal.

Five minutes later, Shippensburg struck again with a goal from Cantabene. Button intercepted the ball and passed it to Cantabene, who drew Lewis out of her zone and scored from the right side.

Sophomore Lindsay Tripodo had five first-half saves, and SU's defenders were also integral to keeping the score just 1-0 at halftime, as Hoekstra recorded two defensive saves and freshman Plinke Hillen was also credited with a defensive save.

Mansfield had a 7-4 penalty corner advantage while the Raiders finished with a 12-11 advantage in shots on goal.

Shippensburg will travel to rival No. 1 West Chester for a conference matchup on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
