SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team fell to No. 4 Kutztown to end its school-record winning streak; as the Raiders dropped a 4-1 decision to the Golden Bears in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on a Tuesday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (8-1, 2-1 PSAC) had its lone goal from a penalty stroke by senior
Merel Hoekstra. The Raiders outshot Kutztown (9-2, 2-1) 18-8, with 12-7 shots on goal.
Even though SU had an 8-4 penalty corner advantage, KU was able to take advantage of its early penalty corners in the first half for a 3-0 lead by halftime. The Golden Bears scored two from penalty corners and scored the third goal with less than five seconds left in the second quarter.
Shippensburg will travel to No. 9 Mansfield on Saturday for another conference matchup at noon.
Notes:
- Shippensburg's last loss at home was back in November 5, 2019 against Millersville in the PSAC Quarterfinals with a 2-1 double overtime loss.
- Field Hockey now holds the school record for the longest winning streak by any team at Shippensburg University, previously held by the Softball (2005) and Women's basketball (1997-98) team with 24 games. SU Field Hockey (1976-78) did have a 27-game undefeated streak with 22 wins, five ties before a loss in 1978.
