SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's basketball team snapped Bloomsburg's eight-game winning streak on Wednesday night and defeated the Huskies by a score of 79-51 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) conference match at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (10-7, 6-5 PSAC) held Bloomsburg (12-8, 10-4) to 36.8 percent shooting and used a 17-7 run in the second quarter to take an 11-point halftime lead. SU went on a 9-0 run in the third quarter to slow Bloomsburg's momentum and started the fourth quarter on a 12-4 run. The Raiders led by as many as 31 points down the stretch.
SU shot a season-best 83.3 percent at the free-throw line (20-of-24) while scoring a season-high 23 second-chance points in addition to 14 points off 19 Husky turnovers.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson led the Raiders with 23 points, her ninth game this season of 20 or more points. She added six rebounds, two assists and two steals. She was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.
Junior
Aunbrielle Green marked her fifth game in double figures this season with 19 points, two away from her career high. She contributed five rebounds, a steal and a block. She was 6-of-9 from the field, and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Junior
Lauren Pettis posted her fourth double-double this season with 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Pettis was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, the best field-goal percentage by a Raider in a game this season. Pettis also had one steal and only committed one turnover.
Sophomore
Treasure George was the fourth Raider in double figures with 11 points, eight of those coming in the second half. George added six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Freshman
Taja Colbert tied her career high with five rebounds and added three assists.
The Raiders posted a 47-27 rebound advantage over Bloomsburg, who entered the game with the fourth-best rebound margin in the conference. SU also scored 42 points in the paint.
Bloomsburg was led by Emma Saxton with 13 points.
Shippensburg will travel to face East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday.
