SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team had four players post double figures Wednesday night as it returned to the win column with a 90-64 victory over Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (13-5, 10-3 PSAC) shot 48.5 percent from the floor and 72 percent at the free-throw line, making 21 free throws on the night. SU got points from nine different players in the game and 12 players saw time on the court. SU's defense held the visitors 10 points below their season scoring average.
Redshirt-junior
Rashon Johnson scored 24 points – his fifth 20-point game of the season – and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season and the 10th of his career. Johnson also had a career-high six steals (five in the first half), the most by a Raider in a single game since Tony Ellis had seven at Pitt-Johnstown on Jan. 6, 2016. He was 8-of-16 from the field and added two blocks and an assist.
Graduate
Jake Biss shot 8-of-16 from the floor for 19 points, five assists, two steals and two rebounds. Senior
Kiyon Hardy shot 5-of-10 from field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line for 16 points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal.
Redshirt-junior
Dom Sleva was perfect from the floor, shooting 4-of-4 for 10 points, five rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
Senior
Youssef Diabate made the most of his minutes off the bench and set career highs in points (seven) and rebounds (four). Diabate also had a steal.
Junior
Carlos Carter returned with four points, four assists and a rebound. Freshman
Michael Dunn had four points, two rebounds, a block and a steal.
Sophomore
Ty Holsopple set career highs with four points and four rebounds.
Shippensburg committed a season-low four turnovers and outscored the Huskies 23-0 in points off turnovers.
Bloomsburg (3-12, 2-9) was led offensively by Justin Anderson and Travis Elmore who both had 19 points. Elmore grabbed six rebounds and had an assist. The Huskies won the rebounding margin, 47-39, but shot just 2-of-21 (9.5 percent) from three-point range.
Shippensburg will battle for the top spot in the Eastern Division at 3 p.m. Saturday at East Stroudsburg.
