The Shippensburg University men's basketball team remained atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division on Saturday by posting a 72-58 victory over East Stroudsburg at Koehler Fieldhouse.
Shippensburg (14-5, 11-3 PSAC) shot 57 percent from the field and 66 percent (6-of-9) from three-point range in the first half to gain a 15-point halftime lead on the Warriors. Redshirt-junior
Rashon Johnson scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the first half.
East Stroudsburg (11-6, 9-4) opened the second half on a 20-8 run to make it a one-possession game. The Raiders withstood the ESU surge and increased their lead back to double digits. The Shippensburg defense held the Warriors to 17.6 percent shooting from three-point range (3-of-17) and kept the hosts 22 points below their season scoring average.
Johnson's 27 points marked his third straight game of 20 or more points. It was his sixth 20-point game of the season and the 10th of his career. He finished with five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block – shooting 11-of-21 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Graduate
Jake Biss shot 8-of-12 from the floor for 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Redshirt-junior
Dom Sleva had 11 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and the 10th of his career. Sleva also had four assists and three steals while shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Freshman
Michael Dunn was 3-of-6 from the field off the bench for seven points, including a three-pointer and a dunk. Redshirt-junior
Youssef Diabate had four points and a career-high six rebounds.
Shippensburg scored 20 points off turnovers. It was the second straight game and the third time this season that the Raiders totaled 20 or more points off turnovers.
East Stroudsburg had Marc Rodriguez put up 13 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Carlos Pepin and Troy Jones contributed 11 points. Pepin had seven rebounds, two assists and a block. Jones had two assists, two steals and a rebound.
Shippensburg will host Millersville at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Heiges Field House. The Marauders are currently second in the Eastern Division.
