The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start on Wednesday night as the Raiders dropped a road matchup at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Mansfield, 70-50, at Decker Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (7-6, 3-4 PSAC) trailed by four points at halftime as Mansfield (5-7, 4-4) limited the Raiders to 28-percent shooting from the field. The Mountaineers led by nine points at the end of the third quarter and used a 12-4 run at the start of the fourth quarter to pull away.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson was the lone Raider in double figures with 13 points. She was 5-of-8 from the free throw line and added six rebounds.
Freshman
Taja Colbert and sophomore
Treasure George both scored eight points and combined for five assists. Colbert was 2-of-2 at the free-throw line.
Junior
Aunbrielle Green was the leading rebounder with eight on the night; she scored five points and had one block. Junior
Lauren Mills contributed seven points and four rebounds.
Mansfield shot 44 percent from the field, including 53 percent in the second half, and posted a 50-36 rebound advantage. The Mountaineers totaled 24 assists compared to 14 turnovers and were led by Jasmine Hilton, who scored a game-high 29 points on 13-of-17 shooting.
Saturday's game with East Stroudsburg has been postponed due to health and safety precautions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference office re-scheduled the game for 7 p.m. Monday (Jan. 17) at Heiges Field House.
