SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak on Monday night by defeating East Stroudsburg by a score of 55-48 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (8-6, 4-4 PSAC East) held East Stroudsburg (1-11, 0-9) to single digits in the second and third quarter to take an 11-point lead into the final frame. SU also opened the game on an 8-0 run. With under five minutes remaining, the Warriors got within three points of the lead before a 12-2 Raider run cemented the victory.
SU scored 18 points off turnovers and posted advantages in rebounds (43-28) and blocks (8-4).
Senior
Destiny Jefferson led the Raiders with 21 points, marking her seventh game of 20 or more points this season. Jefferson was 9-of-11 at the free-throw line and led the team with three steals. She also had two assists.
Sophomore
Treasure George scored six points, recorded a career-high nine rebounds and tied a career high with two steals. She also added three assists and drew seven fouls.
Freshman
Taja Colbert added eight points, two rebounds and a career-high three steals. Fellow freshman
Ali Hauck tied her career high with nine rebounds and was 2-of-2 from the line.
Junior
Aunbrielle Green totaled six points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Fellow junior
Lauren Mills had seven points, four rebounds, and two blocks.
East Stroudsburg was led by Cassie Ksiazek, who scored 16 points. Ryan Weise had 10 points.
Shippensburg will be back in action Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Shepherd at Heiges Field House.
