The Shippensburg University baseball team began its final series of the regular season Thursday with a doubleheader split at Bloomsburg, taking Game 2 by a 7-4 score after dropping Game 1, 13-1, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at Danny Litwhiler Field.
Shippensburg (16-18, 14-16 PSAC East) used a four-run first inning in Game 2 to gain a lead it ultimately would not relinquish. Eight different Raiders had one hit, including a two-run single by
Tony Vavaroutsos and an RBI-double by
Lake Lloyd.
Starting pitcher
Kyle Lysy improved to 5-3 with the Game 2 win, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings of work. Lysy struck out five and did not walk a batter.
The lone Raider run in Game 1 came on a third-inning RBI-single by
Ben Werkheiser that plated
JuJu Cason, who tripled. The Huskies held a 4-1 lead through four innings of the opener before a five-run fifth and a four-run sixth extended their advantage.
Shippensburg will host Bloomsburg at
11 a.m. Friday. The start time was moved up due to rain in the forecast.
Before Friday's doubleheader, SU will honor its seniors: Lysy,
Kiernan Higgins,
Chris Horst,
Matt Ryan and
