RECAP: Krahl’s golden goal gives Lacrosse a 12-11 road win at Millersville

Raiders split season series with the Marauders

Freshman Bailey Krahl scored a golden goal 3:09 into overtime Tuesday to give the Shippensburg University lacrosse team a 12-11 victory over Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at the Biemesderfer.

Shippensburg (2-6, 2-5 PSAC East) and Millersville (2-6, 2-5) played within two goals of each other for the entire contest, with most of the game being tied or within one goal. The two teams alternated the first 10 goals of the game until back-to-back goals from Alana Cardaci giving the Raiders a brief two-goal lead late in the first half.

MU got back-to-back goals from Genevieve Speights to make it 10-10 with 8:19 remaining. Both teams scored a free-position goal in the final minutes of regulation, with Marauder goalie Kaleigh Sasdelli stopping another Raider free position with 57 seconds remaining that ultimately led to overtime.

After the teams exchanged sides following the first three-minute session of overtime, sophomore Gabby Savarino controlled the draw and set up Krahl for the golden goal just nine seconds after the whistle.

Goalkeeper Ally Weneta equaled a career high with 15 saves in Tuesday's win – including seven in the second half.

Cardaci finished with a game-high four goals. Savarino and Hannah Seifried each posted a hat trick; Savarino added an assist, two draw controls and two groundballs, while Seifried added four draw controls.

Krahl finished with two goals and two assists. Sophomore Sydney Costanza had an assist on Cardaci's first goal.

Shippensburg committed a season-low 13 turnovers and finished with 11 caused turnovers. Madi Jones, McKenna Keller and Kayla Jones were among the Raiders who each had multiple caused turnovers.

Senior Jessica DeMarte had a game-high six draw controls to go along with two caused turnovers and two groundballs. SU won eight of the last 12 draw controls.

Shippensburg travels Saturday to nationally-ranked West Chester for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Golden Rams.
