SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team opened the 2021 season Wednesday with a setback in its lone non-conference game of the season, falling to Seton Hill, 15-6, on a warm and sunny afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (1-0) overcame an early 3-0 deficit by scoring four of the final six goals of the first half to get within one goal of Seton Hill (1-0) at halftime. The Raiders were dominant on the draw in the first half, controlling 9-of-10 in the first 30 minutes. Sophomore
Gabby Savarino finished with a game-high eight draw controls.

The Griffins flipped the script in the second half, however, winning 11-of-12 draws. The visitors unleashed a string of eight consecutive goals over a 14-minute span, taking a 14-5 lead with 13:17 left to play. SU found the back of the net just twice in the second half, and only totaled 14 shots in the contest.

Hannah Seifried registered her fifth career hat trick. Savarino added a pair of goals in addition to her success on the draw, and senior
Alana Cardaci opened the scoring for the Raiders in the first half with a goal off an assist from senior
Jena MacDonald.

Madi Jones collected multiple groundballs along the back lines, and freshman
Bailey Krahl recorded two caused turnovers.

In goal, redshirt-sophomore
KiKi Brasher made nine saves in 46 minutes of action. Freshman
Ally Weneta entered in relief and made three saves.

For the visitors, Kristi Kada finished with four goals, six draw controls, three caused turnovers and three groundballs. Alaina TeSelle added a hat trick and four groundballs, while Jaclyn Frank had three assists. Griffin goalkeeper Kamille Ward made four saves.

Shippensburg hosts Millersville at 1 p.m. Saturday as it continues its four-game homestand to open the season.
