RECAP: Men’s Basketball pulls away from Clarion, 70-61

Hardy scores career-high 19 points to lead four Raiders in double figures

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team pulled away in the second half Tuesday night to post a 70-61 victory at Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mandated crossover at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (5-3, 2-1 PSAC) and Clarion (4-4, 0-3) were within two points at halftime, with the Raiders holding a 34-32 lead. An 8-0 run midway through the second half helped SU establish a 12-point lead with nine minutes to go and the Golden Eagles would only cut their deficit to as few as seven points the rest of the way.

Senior Kiyon Hardy led all scorers with a career-high 19 points. Hardy was 8-of-13 from the field and added five rebounds and four assists.

Junior Carlos Carter was also 8-of-13 from the field and scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half. Carter grabbed six rebounds and had a team-high three steals.

Redshirt-sophomore Rashon Johnson was excellent off the bench and finished a rebound shy of a double-double. Johnson had 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

Graduate Jake Biss had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Redshirt-junior Dom Sleva added seven points.

Clarion was led by Gerald Jarmon and Connor Ferrell. Jarmon put up 17 points, two assists and two rebounds. Ferrell had 15 points, three rebounds and a block. Lawrence Lemon had 10 points and seven rebounds. All three men were 2-of-4 from three-point range.

SU posted a 40-26 rebounding advantage and committed just 10 turnovers to help overcome the Golden Eagles shooting 49 percent from the floor. The Raiders also had a 17-4 advantage in second-chance points.

Shippensburg is back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pitt-Johnstown.
