The Shippensburg University men's basketball team shot 65 percent from the field in the second half and made a season-high 13 three-pointers on Saturday to hand Pitt-Johnstown its first league loss, defeating the host Mountain Cats, 76-62, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mandated crossover at Sports Center.
 
Shippensburg (6-3, 3-1 PSAC) closed the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 32-24 halftime lead. The 24 first-half points for Pitt-Johnstown (7-3, 3-1 PSAC) marked a season low in a half for the Mountain Cats. SU used separate second-half runs of 9-0 and 11-2 to lead by as many as 20 points down the stretch.  
 
The Raiders also posted a 25-4 advantage in points off turnovers and produced 12 second-chance points. SU out-rebounded UPJ by a 42-28 margin.
 
Graduate Jake Biss led the SU offense with 20 points, which was a game high, and had a team-high five assists along with five rebounds. Biss was 5-of-8 from three-point range, including makes on his last four attempts. He made all four of his field-goal attempts in the second half.
 
Junior Carlos Carter put up 17 points and nine rebounds, matched a career high with four assists and recorded a new career high with four blocks. Carter had eight points and eight rebounds in the first half and was 4-of-6 from the field with three blocks in the second half.
 
Redshirt-junior Dom Sleva dropped his second double-double on the season with 14 points, and a game-high 15 rebounds – finishing just one rebound short of his career high set earlier this season against Wilmington (Del.). Sleva had already totaled 12 rebounds by halftime. He added two assists and one steal.
 
Redshirt-junior Rashon Johnson had another effective performance coming off the bench with 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a career-high four steals.
 
John Paul Kromka led the Mountain Cats with 16 points and added four rebounds, four assists and one steal. Fred Mulbah had a game-high seven assists and put up eight points, one steal and a team-high six rebounds.
 
Shippensburg faces No. 6 IUP at 3 p.m. Sunday.
