The Shippensburg University men's basketball team limited host Bowie State to just three points in the final 8:16 Sunday to come away with a 47-39 victory over the Bulldogs in a matinee at A.C. Jordan Arena.
Shippensburg (4-3) limited Bowie State (1-8) to 28-percent shooting and closed the game on a 16-3 run to raise its record above .500. The Raiders trailed 37-31 with 8:16 remaining but allowed just one field goal the rest of the way, as the Bulldogs did not score a point in the final 5:18 of the game.
SU maintained a 23-20 lead at the intermission after a low-scoring first half. The two teams combined for 21 first-half turnovers. There were also no free-throw attempts in the first half. Overall, the two teams combined to shoot 5-for-30 (17 percent) from three-point range.
The Raiders won despite shooting just 34 percent (31 percent in the second half) and totaling its fewest points in a game since December 2013. The SU defense, meanwhile, allowed its fewest points since November 2016. Bowie shot 23 percent in the second half and not have a player score in double figures.
Redshirt-sophomore
Rashon Johnson was the only player on either team to post double figures. Johnson was 6-of-11 off the bench and scored 12 points. He added five rebounds and two steals.
Junior
Carlos Carter had nine points and eight rebounds. Carter and senior
Kiyon Hardy each made one three-pointer; the lone three-pointers of the day for the Raiders. Hardy finished with eight points and matched his career high with 10 rebounds.
Redshirt-junior
Dom Sleva contributed eight points, nine rebounds and two assists. Graduate
Jake Biss returned from injury to make his season debut and finished with eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
Shippensburg is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clarion.
