SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team charged on Tuesday with a 2-0 win in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play over No. 3 Millersville on a cloudy afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
 
Shippensburg (11-0, 6-0 PSAC) controlled the first half and got a second-quarter goal from senior Jazmin Petrantonio that was deflected off a Marauder defender.
 
Millersville (10-2, 3-2 PSAC) kept close with a career-high 10 saves from goalkeeper Kerstin Koons and defensive saves from Meredith Fagan and Kortlin Yetter. However, a diving shot from SU senior Adrienne McGarrigle off a pass from freshman Nya Gilchrist made it a 2-0 game eight seconds remaining.
 
The Raiders did not allow a penalty corner in Tuesday's match. SU outshot the Marauders 21-3 and had eight penalty corners. Shippensburg's defense and midfield stayed busy, keeping the Marauders mostly out of the arc and only allowing two shots on goal.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Tripodo, the reigning PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, had two challenging saves to weather a late attack by the Marauders.
 
Shippensburg is on the road for its next three matches, beginning 6 p.m. Saturday at Bloomsburg.
