The Shippensburg University field hockey team remained unbeaten Saturday and clinched a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament with a 6-0 conference win over Bloomsburg at Steph Petit Stadium.
Â
Shippensburg (12-0, 7-0 PSAC) got a hat trick from senior
Jazmin Petrantonio, her fourth of the season and the 13th of her historic career. Graduate
Caitlyn Wink had two assists, as each of the first three Raider goals came off penalty corners.
Â
SU gained the upper hand in the first quarter with a top-of-the-circle shot by graduate
Tori Albright off Wink's corner entry. In the second quarter, Petrantonio tipped home a shot by graduate
Anna Gruber after a defensive save by the Huskies.
Â
In the third quarter, Petrantonio scored from midrange after Wink inserted the penalty corner. A minute after the third goal, Petrantonio drove the ball all the way from midfield to complete a natural hat trick.
Â
In the fourth quarter, senior
Jenna Sluymer capitalized on a turnover to score her 15th goal of the season. Sophomore
Maura Mears closed the scoring by converting the rebound of her initial shot for her first collegiate goal.
Â
Bloomsburg (7-7, 1-5 PSAC) had two shots on goal and four penalty corners but was unable to get the ball past goalkeeper
Lindsay Tripodo. The Huskies used two goalies who combined to make 17 saves, and two BU defenders recorded a defensive save.
Â
Shippensburg is back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Seton Hill.
