The Shippensburg University lacrosse team overcame an 8-4 halftime deficit on Friday to defeat Lock Haven, 14-13, in a conference crossover contest at Charlotte Smith Field.

Shippensburg (3-2), which has had several players limited in practice this week due to illness, trailed 4-1 midway through the first half but got within a goal, 5-4, entering the final two minutes of the opening frame. Lock Haven (2-1) scored three times in the final 1:45, however, to take an 8-4 lead into the intermission.

The Raiders scored four of the first five goals of the second half to get back within striking distance. SU took a 12-11 lead with 14:24 remaining and proceeded to exchange goals with the Bald Eagles until the final tally – the fourth goal of the game by junior
Alana Cardaci – came with 2:26 left.

In a frantic finish, Lock Haven nearly tied the game on multiple occasions, hitting both the post and crossbar with separate shots, and freshman
Ally Weneta also making a save. After four Bald Eagle chances, the Raiders worked a turnover and proceeded to run out the clock over the final 40 seconds.

Sophomore
Hannah Seifried had a signature performance, scoring a career-high six goals and collecting a career-high five groundballs. Seifried converted all three of her free-position opportunities; her sixth and final tally got the Raiders to within one goal of the lead (11-10) with 17:41 left.

Cardaci scored three of her season-high four goals in the final 17 minutes. She tied the game at 11-11 with 17:02 left, gave the Raiders a 13-12 lead with 5:30 left, and then added the game-winner off an assist from senior
Kami Holt. Cardaci, who recorded her third hat trick of the season, also recorded three groundballs.

Jena MacDonald scored a go-ahead goal with 14:24 left and had a season-high three assists. Sophomore
Sydney Costanza, junior
Jessica DeMarte and junior
Maddy Siejk also found the back of the net.

Siejk, who made her season debut, had three draw controls and two groundballs. DeMarte also had three draw controls and two groundballs. Sophomore
Gabby Savarino had a team-high four draw controls.

The Raiders committed just seven turnovers in the second half to key their comeback. Statistically on the defensive side, sophomore
McKenna Keller had four groundballs, while junior
Madi Jones and sophomore
Clairanne Chairs were credited with three groundballs.

Weneta entered in relief and made four saves in the second half en route to the victory. Redshirt-sophomore
KiKi Brasher got the start in goal and made one save in the first half.

Shippensburg opens PSAC Eastern Division play at 4 p.m. Wednesday at nationally-ranked West Chester.
