The Shippensburg University women's basketball team got 36 points from junior
Ariel Jones on Saturday and posted a plus-15 rebound advantage in defeating Mansfield, 73-62, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Decker Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (16-7, 13-4 PSAC) clinched a PSAC Tournament berth with the victory, marking the first trip to the postseason for the Raiders since the 2016-17 season. SU leads the Eastern Division by 1.5 games over Shepherd and Kutztown with five regular-season games remaining.
Jones finished two points short of her career high, shooting 11-of-17 from the field including 5-of-10 from three-point range. Twenty-seven of her points came in the second half. She was 9-of-11 from the free-throw line and finished with five rebounds and two blocks. It is her second-straight 30-point game, her seventh of the season and the 21st of her career.
Sophomore
Aunbrielle Green scored 14 points to complement five rebounds and three assists. Green was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line. Junior
Destiny Jefferson had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Junior
Kryshell Gordy was all over the court, leading all players with 17 rebounds (one short of her career high) while recording four assists, a block and a steal while scoring six points. Sophomore
Lauren Mills had four points, three rebounds, four assists and a career-high five steals.
SU held a 32-23 halftime lead and a 56-43 lead after three quarters, but Mansfield (3-20, 1-16) got within four points of the Raiders with six minutes remaining. Jones then scored nine points in the next two minutes, with a three-pointer and a jumper bookended by four free throws.
Mansfield's Bella Skatell scored 17 points to lead the Mountaineers; she was 6-of-6 from the field including 5-of-5 from three-point range. Paige Whitfield had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Shippensburg travels to Millersville on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off from Pucillo Gymnasium.
