The Shippensburg University women's basketball team overcame a fourth-quarter rally from host Millersville on Wednesday to ultimately defeat the Marauders, 84-79, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Pucillo Gymnasium.
 
Shippensburg (17-7, 14-4 PSAC) opened the second half on a 14-2 run to lead by as many as 17 points in the third quarter. Millersville (7-16, 4-14), trailing by 13 points early in the fourth quarter, erupted with a 23-8 run to take a two-point lead with 4:17 remaining.
 
Junior Ariel Jones countered with a jumper and a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions to return the lead to the Raiders. SU did not trail the rest of the way. Jones scored eight of her 29 points in the final 3:35, with the Marauders only getting as close as two points of the lead with 22 seconds left.
 
Jones finished with her sixth career double-double. In addition to her 29 points, Jones grabbed 11 rebounds and had two assists. It is her fourth double-digit rebound game of the season.
 
Junior Destiny Jefferson scored 27 points, including 4-of-7 from three-point range and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, to surpass the 1,000–point mark for her career. Jefferson now has 1,016 career points – including 361 in her first season with the Raiders in 2019-20. She also had six rebounds and three assists on the night.
 
Shippensburg made a season-high 29 free throws Wednesday, shooting 29-of-39 (74 percent) at the free-throw line to key the victory. Holding a two-point lead with 21 seconds remaining, junior Kryshell Gordy made a pair of free throws to preface a defensive stand at the other end that proved decisive for the Raiders.
 
Gordy posted double figures for the seventh time this season, finishing with 10 points to go along with four rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore Aunbrielle Green finished with nine points, including 5-of-8 at the free-throw line, to go along with 10 rebounds and two assists. It is Green's seventh double-digit rebounding game of the year.
 
Millersville got 41 points from Lauren Lister, who became her school's all-time leading scorer in the loss. Lister scored 18 points in the fourth quarter. The Marauders made 10 three-pointers, including five by Courtney Dimoff.
 
Shippensburg hosts Lock Haven at 1 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House. The women's basketball team will be holding its Alumni Game at 10 a.m. Saturday. Fans wearing pink to the game will receive free admission on Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
