RECAP: Women’s Basketball Drops Regular-Season Finale at Kutztown, 70-62

Raiders commit just eight turnovers but cannot overcome tough shooting day

The Shippensburg University women's basketball team committed a season-low eight turnovers but could not overcome a 30-percent shooting effort on Saturday in dropping a 70-62 decision at Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Keystone Arena.
 
Shippensburg (20-8, 17-5) finishes the regular season as PSAC Eastern Division champions, while Kutztown (18-10, 15-7) secured the Eastern Division No. 3 seed by virtue of its win over the Raiders. The two teams split the season series.
 
Junior Destiny Jefferson led the Raiders with 22 points, making 7-of-8 at the free-throw line, and recorded four steals. Junior Ariel Jones had 13 points, tied for the team high with nine rebounds, and had four steals.
 
Sophomore Lauren Pettis contributed nine points and five rebounds off the bench. Junior Kryshell Gordy had six points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocks.
 
SU was 1-of-18 (5.6 percent) from three-point range Saturday and 8-of-37 (21.6 percent) overall from the field in the second half. The Raiders were 23-of-32 (72 percent) at the free-throw line.
 
KU got 22 points and 11 rebounds from Rylee Derr, while Casey Remolde added 16 points. The Golden Bears shot 39 percent, including nine three-pointers, and also shot 72 percent at the free-throw line.
 
Shippensburg will host the winner of the PSAC First Round game between Lock Haven and Shepherd at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday inside Heiges Field House.
