The Shippensburg University volleyball team completed its opening weekend of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with a sweep of longtime rival Pitt-Johnstown, defeating the Mountain Cats by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-15 from Sports Center.
Shippensburg (10-3, 2-0 PSAC) hit .343 in the match – its second-best offensive output of the season – en route to the victory. The Raiders committed just 13 errors on 105 attempts, with three players posting double-digit kills and junior
Emily Hangen handing out 41 assists.
The Raiders again had a sluggish start to the first set, falling behind 8-2, but rallied after a timeout by scoring nine of the next 11 points to take an 11-10 lead. The Raiders fell behind by five points, 19-14, before a tremendous end to the set that featured runs of 4-0 and 5-0.
In the second set, Shippensburg built an 18-11 lead before Pitt-Johnstown (7-4, 0-2) roared back with nine of the next 10 points to lead 20-19. The Raiders countered with six of the final eight points, however, to take the frame.
The third set was 11-10 in SU's favor before the Raiders unfurled multiple service runs, scoring 14 of the match's final 19 points to claim victory.

Samantha Webber and junior
Gianna Sigado each paced the Raiders with 12 kills. Webber hit a team-high .526 and had three block assists, while Sigado notched her second career double-double by posting 10 digs.
Senior
Gabriella Johnson had 11 kills, swung .320, and totaled eight digs. Fellow senior
Kendall Johnson (Chesterfield, Va./James River) had eight kills and hit .222. Senior
Megan Forstburg led the Raiders with 19 digs.
With their blocks in this weekend's matches,
Kendall Johnson now ranks fourth all-time at Shippensburg in block assists (267), while Webber climbed to fifth (260).
Shippensburg returns home Friday night to face Seton Hill at 7 p.m. from Heiges Field House.
