The Shippensburg University women's tennis team took to courts at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday for competition in the annual Bloomsburg Fall Invitational, facing opponents from Lock Haven, East Stroudsburg and the host Huskies.
 
Shippensburg fared well on each day, finishing the tournament weekend with a 4-4 record in doubles and seven singles victories.
 
The freshmen doubles duo of Maddy Reeves and Paige Simons won three doubles matches over the course of two days, including both of their matches on Sunday. The duo defeated Lock Haven's McCartney Register and Kayla Mushala, 6-1, and Lock Haven's Delani Wolever and Hailey Risley, 6-2.
 
In singles play, Reeves defeated Risley with a clean sheet on Sunday after defeating Wolever on Saturday, yielding just two games to her opponent.
 
Sophomore Kayla Tryanski finished the weekend with two singles victories, including an exciting Saturday three-setter in which she defeated Lock Haven's Victoria Bensinger 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 10-3.
 
Freshman Sahar Islam defeated Lock Haven's McCartney Register twice in singles, including a 6-0, 7-5 decision on Sunday. The day before, Islam won seven singles games against ESU's Ivanna Pittman.
 
Tryanski and Islam also teamed up for a big 6-4 doubles victory over East Stroudsburg's Briana Young and Ivanna Pittman.
 
Freshman Cally Papoutsis also notched a singles victory this weekend, defeating Lock Haven's Mushala 6-2, 6-1.
 
Shippensburg returns to action in two weeks with representation in the conference individual championships back at Bloomsburg.
