The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday to complete two weeks of Mountain East Conference (MEC) crossover matches, falling to Fairmont State in four sets before suffering a sweep at the hands of host No. 23 Wheeling in action from the Alma Grace McDonough Center.

Shippensburg (8-3) took the first set of the day but fell to the Fighting Falcons by set scores of 27-29, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-18. The set scores against the Cardinals were 25-23, 25-17 and 25-20. The Raiders had at least eight blocks in each match, but finished the day with a total of 44 attack errors.

Gabriella Johnson led the Raiders against Fairmont State with another double-double, totaling a team-high 15 kills to go along with 10 digs and three block assists. She added eight kills, 12 digs and two block assists against Wheeling.

Kendall Johnson had nine kills in each match and also hit .200 or better in each match. She finished the day with 10 block assists. Junior
Emily Hangen tallied 75 assists overall – including 41 against Fairmont.

Samantha Webber also hit .200 or better in each match. Webber had an eight-kill, .200 outing against the Fighting Falcons before coming back with a seven-kill, .263 performance against the Cardinals.

Maria Lucas finished the day with 24 digs, including a team-high 16 digs against Wheeling.

Shippensburg begins its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule next weekend with road matches at IUP and Pitt-Johnstown.
