SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team got complete-game shutouts on Saturday from seniors
Zack Sims and
Michael Hope to achieve a doubleheader sweep of Mansfield by scores of 3-0 and 5-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action from Fairchild Field.

Shippensburg (17-24, 9-13 PSAC East) celebrated Military Appreciation Day with an honorary first pitch from Captain Lance Walter, who has served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for 18 years. Walter is also an assistant professor of military science at Shippensburg. The ROTC

The Raiders used some timely hitting to get past Mansfield (5-31, 2-20), with a two-run fifth inning being key in Game 1 and a three-run sixth inning proving pivotal in Game 2. SU out-hit the Mountaineers, 10-8, and did not allow an extra-base hit on the day.

Sims notched his first shutout of the season and the second of his career. He allowed just one hit through the first six innings, and finished by yielding just three singles and walking one to complement a season-high 10 strikeouts.

Hope achieved his second shutout of the season and the third of his career. He scatted five singles and walked two. It was his third outing of the year (second straight) with double-digit strikeouts.
Junior
Zack Zoller led the Raiders with three hits, including the day's lone home run. Zoller also doubled, and finished with two RBIs. Senior
Ty Painter had two hits, including a double and a run scored.

Freshman
Tony Vavaroutsos and
Lake Lloyd each contributed an RBI. The Raiders also drew 12 walks on the day.

Saturday marked the second time this season that Shippensburg has posted shutouts in both games of a PSAC East Doubleheader, as Hope and sophomore
Noah Inch achieved the feat at Kutztown on March 24.
