RECAP: Baseball Drops Both Games of PSAC East Twinbill at WCU, 10-2 and 8-1

SU manages just three runs Saturday to finish WCU series with an overall split

The Shippensburg University baseball team was defeated in both games of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at No. 22 West Chester on Saturday, falling to the Golden Rams by scores of 10-2 and 8-1 on a sunny afternoon at Serpico Stadium.

Shippensburg (14-20, 6-10 PSAC East) managed just three runs against West Chester (19-10, 10-6) starters Zach Rice and David Mervis, both of whom threw complete games. SU finished with 11 hits overall. Junior Jacob Pollock led the Raiders with three hits, including a double. Senior Jack Goertzen had a double among his two hits.

SU's Game 1 runs were plated on an RBI-single in the first by sophomore Scout Knotts and an RBI-double in the third by sophomore Logan Williamson that gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead. The Golden Rams scored multiple runs in each of their final four at-bats in Game 1 to transform a deficit into a large lead.

The only Raider run of Game 2 also came in the first inning – marking SU's 12th first-inning run in the series. Senior Tommy Baggett singled, and junior Zack Zoller came home on an error on the play.

On the mound, senior Michael Hope struck out seven in his Game 2 start, throwing 5.2 innings. Six Raider pitchers were used in the doubleheader.
