RECAP: Lacrosse Drops PSAC Road Clash at Kutztown, 15-6

Raiders cannot overcome first-half deficit against Golden Bears

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team came up short on the road Wednesday at Kutztown, as the Raiders dropped a 15-6 decision to the Golden Bears in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Andre Reed Stadium.
 
Shippensburg (4-4, 2-2 PSAC) was held scoreless for nearly the entire first half and could not overcome the large deficit it sustained in the opening 30 minutes of play. Kutztown (3-4, 2-2) scored the first eight goals of the game and never trailed en route to the victory. SU would get as close as 9-4 with 22:18 remaining.
 
The Golden Bears controlled the draw against the Raiders, finishing with a 16-7 edge from the circle (12-1 in the second half), and the hosts also posted a 25-15 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Sophomore Alana Cardaci netted her fifth hat trick of the season for the Raiders. Seniors Kyra Shank and Madi Newman and sophomore Maddy Siejk each scored one goal; Siejk and sophomore Jena MacDonald each had one assist.
 
From the back lines, senior Valerie Hertz paced the Raiders with three caused turnovers and added three groundballs. Sophomore Madi Jones had a team-high four groundballs.
 
Cardaci and junior Kami Holt each finished with multiple caused turnovers. Freshman Julia Leishear had three groundballs, while Cardaci, Siejk, and freshmen McKenna Keller and freshman Clairanne Chairs each recorded multiple groundballs.
 
Newman and freshman Hannah Seifried each led the Raiders with two draw controls. Freshman goalkeeper Shaely Gamble (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) was credited with 10 saves in the loss.
 
The hosts got six goals, three assists and four groundballs from Lauren Schmidt, while Makayla Bowman added four goals, and an assist. Erin Vaughan Ware had two goals and a game-high four assists. Megan Vaughan made nine saves.
