RECAP: Softball Achieves Road Sweep at Seton Hill, 5-3 and 3-2

Klee reaches base seven times; Coy adds four more hits

The Shippensburg University softball team hit the road on Saturday and earned a pair of non-conference victories at Seton Hill, defeating the Griffins by scored of 5-3 and 3-2 at the Seton Hill Softball Complex.

Shippensburg (9-7) totaled 19 hits on the day, including 11 singles in Game 1, and also walked nine times. Seton Hill (9-7), coached by former Raider assistant Jess Strong, took an early lead in both games but could not hold on as the Raiders completed a pair of comebacks. The Griffins finished the day with 12 hits – including five for extra bases.

Junior Meghan Klee reached base seven times in Saturday's doubleheader, going 5-for-6 with two walks, an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. Sophomore Courtney Coy had four hits, and freshmen Hannah Johnson and Morgan DeFeo each totaled two RBIs on the day.

In Game 1, Seton Hill took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Raiders soon responded. Freshman Hannah Marsteller and DeFeo had RBI singles before Klee scored on a wild pitch. Johnson was the difference-maker, bringing in the go-ahead run with a two-run single up the middle.

The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in Game 2, but Shippensburg answered with three runs in the top of the fifth. DeFeo picked up her second RBI of the day with a fifth-inning double, while Klee and freshman Grace Palmieri plated runners. The Raider defense held on, leaving a Seton Hill runner stranded on third in the sixth before getting the Griffins to go three-up, three-down to end the game.

In the circle, freshman Tressa Kagarise and senior Taryn Wilson each threw complete games. Both pitchers struck out five and did not walk a single batter.
