LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shippensburg University baseball team played its first games in a 12-day span on Saturday, returning to the field and splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Le Moyne in games played at Heritage High School. The Raiders won Game 1, 15-1, but dropped the nightcap, 7-5.

Shippensburg (3-5) cranked out 19 hits on the day – including nine extra-base hits – but Le Moyne (5-5) drew 10 walks in the nightcap to salvage a split. Game 1 featured 22 combined hits, while Game 2 featured more combined walks (15) than hits (10).

The offensive star of the day was freshman
Anthony Vavaroutsos – who slammed a pair of three-run home runs in Game 1 and finished the day 5-for-7 at the plate with three extra-base hits and nine RBIs. In Game 1, Vavaroutsos was 3-for-3 with six RBIs and three runs. He entered the day with just one RBI on the year, but is now tied for the team lead in the statistic. Â

Zack Sims got the win in the opener, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out eight batters. Sophomore
Dalton Oates struck out seven hitters in Game 2.

Jack Goertzen and freshman
Justin Darden had three hits and a walk on the day. Goertzen homered and had two RBIs, while Darden had a double and an RBI.

Tommy Baggett hit a home run, while sophomore
Logan Williamson doubled twice and drove in three runs.
