RECAP: Baseball Hits Six Home Runs in Sweep of Le Moyne, 12-2 and 15-5

SU finishes the day with 25 hits – including five from Logan Williamson

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shippensburg University baseball team cranked out 27 runs on 25 hits on Sunday, launching six home runs as its swept Le Moyne in a non-conference doubleheader, 12-2 and 15-5, in games played at Heritage High School.

Shippensburg (5-5) finished the weekend taking three out of four from Le Moyne (5-7), completing the doubleheader with 44 hits (19 extra-base hits) and scoring 47 runs. The Raiders slammed 10 home runs on the weekend, including three each by senior Jack Goertzen and freshman Anthony Vavaroutsos.
 
On Sunday, sophomore second baseman Logan Williamson led the Raiders with five hits – he was 5-for-8 with a home run, two doubles, six RBIs, a walk, a stolen base and four runs scored. Williamson hit an RBI ground-rule double and a three-run home run in back-to-back at bats in Game 1.
 
Goertzen was 4-for-8 with five RBIs on the day – he homered in each game. Vavaroutsos homered in the first inning of Game 2 – SU scored nine runs in the second inning of the nightcap to gain an insurmountable 11-0 cushion.
 
Freshman Justin Darden had four hits and five RBIs on the day – reaching base five times. Darden is now SU's hitting leader through the first 10 games, having compiled a .444 batting average through 27 at-bats.
 
Junior Jacob Pollock helped the Raiders pull away in Game 1 with a two-out grand slam to center field. Pollock's first collegiate home run highlighted a day in which he was 3-for-6 with a double, walk and seven RBIs.
 
Senior Tommy Baggett slugged a two-run home run in Game 2. Freshman Nick Zanic earned his first collegiate base hit with a Game 2 single.
 
The pitching wins on the day went to redshirt-sophomore Noah Inch and senior Michael Hope. Inch scattered two runs on three hits in six innings, walking just one. He equaled his career high of 10 strikeouts achieved in his last outing. Hope allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings, striking out five.
