The Shippensburg University baseball team finished up its opening weekend on Saturday afternoon with a 7-1 loss at Catawba on a cool day from Newman Park in North Carolina.

Shippensburg (0-3) scored its lone run in the top of the ninth inning. Junior
Jacob Pollock grounded out to first to plate senior
Tommy Baggett, who singled to start the inning.

The Raiders totaled six hits on the day. Freshman first baseman
Lake Lloyd was 2-for-3 at the plate. Â

On the mound, redshirt-sophomore
Noah Inch got the start and held the Indians scoreless through the first four innings. Inch was chased in the fifth, as Catawba scored four runs in the inning. SU used three relievers on the day; senior
Cole Backenstose got the Raiders through the sixth, recording one strikeout, while freshman
Noah Nabholz pitched a scoreless seventh.

Catawba (11-1) starting pitcher Bryan Ketchie threw a complete game, striking out six and walking just one to improve to 3-0 on the season. SU's defense turned double plays in the second and sixth inning. Â
