2018 (Junior): Attended Shippensburg University, was not with the team.
 
2017 (Sophomore): Appeared in four games for Penn State Harrisburg…posted a 1-1 record with one save…threw seven innings of three-hit ball for a victory against Gallaudet in his lone start of the season…struck out 10 batters in 11.1 innings, yielding nine hits and four walks overall…notched a three-inning save with a relief appearance against St. Mary’s (Md.)…posted a season-high five strikeouts in his appearances against Gallaudet and St. Mary’s (Md.)…earned all Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic team honors.
 
2016 (Freshman): Made eight appearances for Penn State Harrisburg…posted a 1-4 record…made starts against Dickinson, Roanoke, Salisbury and Elizabethtown…earned a victory at Roanoke, allowing one run on five hits in six innings…threw 21.1 innings, allowing 14 earned runs…recorded 10 strikeouts and nine walks…achieved a season-high three strikeouts in his victory at Roanoke.
 
Lower Dauphin High School: Worked as a varsity pitcher for the Falcons under coach Ken Kulina…also competed in golf.
 
About Backenstose: Full name is Cole Edward Custer Backenstose…is the son of Bob and Lisa Backenstose…majoring in finance…has a brother, Nate.
