Destiny Jefferson had a career-high 11 assists, and sophomores

Lauren Pettis contributed double-doubles as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with an 88-58 win over Wheeling from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (1-0) scored on each of its first four possessions and opened the game on a 10-0 run, leading by as many as 35 points in the contest. The Raiders scored 52 points in the paint and finished with 22 assists compared to just 11 turnovers.
Jones scored 20 of her 32 points in the first half in achieving the fifteenth 30-point game of her career. She was an efficient 11-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Jones also had four assists and two rebounds.
Jefferson had assists on each of the first three SU possessions and had already totaled eight assists by halftime. She finished with four points, 11 assists, six rebounds and just two turnovers.
Green had 13 points and 11 rebounds in just 21 minutes, shooting 5-of-9 from the field, while Pettis came off the bench to deliver 13 points and 10 rebounds in 15 minutes. Pettis was 4-of-7 from the field and 5-of-11 at the free-throw line.
Junior
Kryshell Gordy and sophomore
Lauren Mills each chipped in with eight points; Gordy also had six rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. Mills had four rebound and three assists.
Redshirt-junior
Lindsay Embly had seven points off the bench, making 3-of-4 from the field. Junior
Erin Gibbons had three points, two rebounds and an assist. SU got 24 points from the bench on the night.
Shippensburg concludes its Conference Challenge on Saturday at 6 p.m. versus Frostburg State from Heiges Field House.
