ERIE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team could not solve an efficient East Stroudsburg squad on Friday night in the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Semifinals, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Warriors by set scores of 14-25, 20-25, 25-12 and 16-25 in action from the Hammermill Center.
Shippensburg (26-6) hit .150 from the floor but could not overcome 25 attack errors. East Stroudsburg (28-6) served seven aces, totaled nine blocks and hit .288 in taking the first two sets to gain decisive momentum in the match. The Warriors also had just 11 attack errors overall.
SU got back in the match with a sterling third set, building an 11-7 lead before an eight-point service run by redshirt-freshman
Syera McCormick that included three aces helped the Raiders pull away. ESU had six of its 11 errors in the frame.
The fourth set was 10-10 when the Warriors went on a 7-1 run that proved insurmountable for the Raiders.
SU did manage 16 more digs than the Warriors, with senior
Megan Forstburg leading all players with 26 digs on the night. Freshman
Maria Lucas was used extensively as a defensive specialist and had 11 digs.

Gianna Sigado led the Raiders with 11 kills, while senior
Gabriella Johnson had nine kills and 16 digs. Senior
Samantha Webber had nine kills and hit .250.

Alana Pergine was strong on the outside, hitting .217 with nine kills. Senior
Kendall Johnson had eight kills and four blocks,
Junior
Emily Hangen had 41 assists and nine digs.
ESU's Trea Ketter, the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year and the nation's leader in blocks per set, had 11 kills without an error, hitting .647, and eight total blocks. Jasmine Mooney had 15 kills and hit .341, while All-PSAC First Teamer Sarah Smith had 12 kills, 11 digs and three blocks.
Shippensburg will now await the results of the NCAA Selection Show, which is set for Monday night and will air on ncaa.com.
