RECAP: Men’s Basketball Gets Past Dickinson, 80-60

Carter scores career-high 20 points for the Raiders

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Carlos Carter scored a career-high 20 points to lead four Raiders in double figures on Tuesday afternoon as the Shippensburg University men's basketball team used a second-half surge to defeat NCAA Division III opponent Dickinson, 80-60, in a non-conference matchup from Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (4-1) shot 45 percent from the floor and scored 46 points in the paint but could not pull away from Dickinson (0-2) in the first half, leading by just four points at the intermission. The Red Devils opened the second half on a 5-0 run to take a 39-38 lead, but the Raiders immediately countered with a 17-4 run to establish a double-digit advantage. SU would not trail by less than nine points the rest of the way.

Carter was 7-of-12 from the field, 2-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. He added six rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.

Senior John Castello was once again efficient from the field, scoring 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Castello added a game-high eight rebounds to go along with a career-high five steals and two assists.

Redshirt-sophomore Dom Sleva continued to contribute in the post, scoring 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting and 5-of-9 at the free-throw line. He made a three-pointer and had four rebounds.

Sophomore Luke Nedrow was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Junior Jake Biss had eight points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Excluding Carter, the rest of the Raiders were just 1-of-13 from three-point range. The Raiders were 19-of-26 (73 percent) overall at the free-throw line.

All 10 Raiders in uniform scored in Tuesday's contest, including the first collegiate points for freshman Ty Holsopple on a layup late in the second half.

Shippensburg hits the road this weekend to begin its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule, playing crossovers at Slippery Rock on Saturday and Edinboro on Sunday.
