The Shippensburg University volleyball team got a nine-point service run early in the second set from junior
Emily Hangen on Tuesday night that flipped the momentum and helped propel the Raiders to a four-set victory at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Southeast Division rival Shepherd by set scores of 20-25, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-23 from the Butcher Center.
Shippensburg (24-4, 16-1 PSAC) overcame a loss in the first set by obtaining leads of 15-4 (following Hangen's service run) and 21-6 in a decisive second set. In the third set, SU held leads of 10-5 and 17-9 – the latter of which came after a five-point service run from redshirt-freshman
Syera McCormick.
Shepherd (25-4, 13-4) trailed 6-1 in the fourth set but battled back to make it 8-8. The Raiders still maintained leads throughout, including a 22-20 advantage late in the frame, before the Rams used three straight points to go up 23-22. Shippensburg clinched, however, with a kill and a pair of attack errors to come away with its ninth straight win.

Kendall Johnson was electric, slamming a match-high 16 kills on just one late error, hitting a whopping .577 from the floor. Her 16th and final kill equaled the match at 23-23 in the fourth set. She led the Raiders with four total blocks, had six digs, and also served an ace.

Samantha Webber was also incredibly effective in the middle, hitting .435 on 23 attempts. Webber finished with 13 kills and just three errors and had a pair of block assists.

Gabriella Johnson contributed in every aspect – slamming 15 kills, recording a match-high 21 digs, serving an ace and achieving a pair of assists. It marks her 16th double-double of the season for kills and digs and the 40th of her career.
Hangen finished with 45 assists, 17 digs, two block assists and two kills.
On the outside, junior
Gianna Sigado had nine kills and 13 digs, swinging .152. Fellow junior
Alana Pergine had five kills, eight digs and hit .222.
Senior
Megan Forstburg had 10 digs and six assists as the libero. McCormick served two of SU's five aces on the night.
Shippensburg remains on the road this weekend for a pair of tough divisional matches to conclude the regular season, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at Millersville.
