RECAP: No. 5 Field Hockey Scores Late to Defeat Slippery Rock, 3-2

Stauffer’s late goal proves the difference for SU

The No. 5 Shippensburg University field hockey team topped Slippery Rock, 3-2, in its regular-season finale Friday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Shippensburg (12-5, 8-2 PSAC) sealed the deal in the final two minutes of play when junior Emily Stauffer notched her sixth goal of the season, beating the goaltender with a high shot. The game-winning goal was manufactured by junior Jazmin Petrantonio, who netted two goals of her own.

Petrantonio's goals, one off a corner and the other from her own rebound, bring her season total to 29 and sets a new career high for the junior. She has scored eight of SU's 10 goals spanning the last three matches.

Slippery Rock (5-13, 2-8) led the contest for nearly ten minutes off goals from Lauren Marks and Jessie Trube. The Rock goaltending duo of Maddie Murphy and Hannah Nurse combined for 14 saves on the day while SU got five saves from redshirt-sophomore Megan Lay .

Shippensburg will host a PSAC Quarterfinal matchup at 4 p.m. Tuesday from Robb Sports Complex. The opponent will be determined following the conclusion of Saturday's league matchups.
