The Shippensburg University women's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit Wednesday to force overtime and ultimately claim a 3-2 victory at Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from the MU Soccer Field.
Shippensburg (5-6, 3-6 PSAC East) trailed 2-0 with 17 minutes left in regulation before finally getting a shot past Mansfield (1-9, 1-7) goalkeeper Stephanie Moir – who finished with 18 saves.
Sophomore
K.K. O'Donnell sent a ball into the middle that was controlled by senior
Izzy Weigel, who sent a touch-pass to freshman
Lauren Ocker that was finished into the lower-left of the goal for her second tally of the season.
Despite finishing with a 21-7 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks, Shippensburg still trailed entering the final four minutes of the match. Sophomore
Mackenzie Mitchell won a scramble in the goal box, created separation from a defender and sent a shot into the lower part of the net for her first collegiate goal. It tied the match at 2-2 with 2:35 remaining.
Junior
Taylor Moore then won it just more than three minutes into overtime, dribbling into space and sending a high shot over the goalkeeper's arms and into the net. It is Moore's second goal of the season and the third game-winning goal of her career.
Ironically – it's the second time that Moore has defeated Mansfield with an overtime golden goal. As a freshman in 2017, Moore scored off a Mallory Patterson assist to give the Raiders a 2-1 home win over the Mountaineers.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kasey Doss allowed one goal and made two saves in 68 minutes of relief to record her first collegiate win. Junior
Delaney Shifflett started and made three saves in the first 25 minutes of play, allowing one goal.
Shippensburg is off Saturday, returning to action next Wednesday at Bloomsburg.
