RECAP: Women’s Soccer Falls at No. 9 Bloomsburg, 4-1

Dalton scores second goal of the year for the Raiders

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team opened the scoring against No. 9-ranked Bloomsburg on Wednesday night but ultimately dropped a 4-1 decision to the Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Steph Pettit Stadium.

Shippensburg (5-7, 3-7) took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute of play when redshirt-freshman Julia Dalton scored her second goal of the season off an assist from fellow freshman Alyse Caffrey. The assist marked Caffrey's first collegiate point.

Bloomsburg (11-1, 9-1) answered just 18 seconds later, however, converting a rebound off a shot that rung the post. The score remained tied at the half – with each team having three shots on goal to its credit at the intermission.

The first two minutes of the second half proved the difference. The Huskies first benefitted from an own goal, as fore-checking pressure resulted in a chip that went over sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Doss. Forty-five seconds later, Maggie McDonald finished a cross to make it 3-1. In an 85-second span to start the half, Bloomsburg suddenly had a two-goal lead.

Doss finished with three saves in her first start of the season.

Shots on goal were 7-5 in Bloomsburg's favor, and corner kicks were close as well – 5-4 in Bloomsburg's favor.

Shippensburg is back home Saturday, facing Lock Haven at 4:30 p.m. for a Homecoming matchup from David See Field.
