SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team avenged an early-season shutout at the hands of Lock Haven on Saturday by recording one of its own, defeating the Bald Eagles by a 3-0 score on Homecoming in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from David See Field.
Shippensburg (6-7, 4-7 PSAC East) and Lock Haven (2-7-2, 2-7-1) played a rather-even statistical game, but the Raiders were able to convert on some key scoring opportunities to achieve their fourth shutout of the season.
Freshman
Emma Oberholtzer took a pass from senior
Izzy Weigel in the 40th minute and sent a lofting shot high into the top-left of the frame for her first collegiate goal, making it 1-0 Shippensburg.
About 10 minutes into the second half, junior
Mara Bowman was at midfield sent a pass back to junior defender
Kendall Mikkelsen – who booted a long advance more than 25 yards down the field that sprung sophomore
K.K. O'Donnell into a breakaway. O'Donnell converted into the lower right of the frame to make it 2-0.
SU clinched it in the 87th minute when junior
Taylor Moore finished a scrum in the box. Freshman
Lauren Ocker got credit for an assist for directing the ball in Moore's direction for the finish.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kasey Doss made a career-high seven saves in recording her first collegiate shutout.
Shippensburg is on the road for its next matchup, a 5 p.m. Wednesday contest at Millersville.
