RECAP: Women’s Soccer Scores Huge Road Win at No. 12 Millersville, 1-0

Weigel’s goal, Doss’s saves propel Raiders to shutout victory

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team scored its biggest victory of the season Wednesday night, hitting the road and achieving a 1-0 shutout at No. 12 Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Pucillo Field.

Shippensburg (7-7, 5-7 PSAC East) and Millersville (11-2, 9-2) each finished with seven shots on goal, and SU earned a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Wednesday marked a stark contrast from the previous meeting this season between the teams held one month ago at David See Field, as the Marauders finished that 3-0 victory with a 14-4 edge in shots on goal and allowed just one corner.

The difference Wednesday was a goal in the 60th minute on an SU counter attack, as senior Izzy Weigel scored her team-leading fifth of the year for the match's lone tally. Weigel remained even with a defender, accepted a pass from freshman Alyse Caffrey, and converted a breakaway for the decisive goal.

Sophomore Kasey Doss matched a career high with seven saves, including a diving stop in the final minute, to record her second consecutive shutout.

Shippensburg snaps a 12-match losing streak against nationally-ranked opponents that dates back to the beginning of the 2015 season, when the Raiders defeated No. 11 East Stroudsburg, 3-2, at David See Field.

Shippensburg remains on the road this weekend for a 5 p.m. Saturday match at divisional rival Kutztown.
