The Shippensburg University women's soccer team was tied with regional power No. 12 West Chester for much of its match Saturday, but the Raiders came up short in dropping a 2-1 decision to the Golden Rams in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match from Rockwell Field.
Shippensburg (4-6, 2-6 PSAC East) answered a sixth-minute goal by West Chester (7-1, 6-1) with one of its own nine minutes later, as senior
Izzy Weigel scored for the second straight match and the fourth time this season to make the score 1-1. Weigel rifled a shot high into the goal after being fed a pass by sophomore
Allie Christman.
The contest remained tied into the 78th minute, when West Chester got a second tally from Olivia Muha that proved to be the difference on a crazy scramble at the net in which the referee deemed the ball barely crossed the goal line.
Junior
Delaney Shifflett was credited with six saves for the Raiders.
Shippensburg remains on the road next week, facing Mansfield on Wednesday.
