Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team ripped 60 kills Friday night to get past division rival West Chester, 3-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-17, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-17.
Shippensburg (18-4, 10-1 PSAC) overcame 11 blocks by West Chester (14-10, 2-9) with a .199 hitting percentage, as four Raiders posted double figures in kills. SU also served nine aces compared to just three for the opposition.
Junior
Emily Hangen directed the offense with 47 assists, 15 digs and a pair of kills. Hangen moved into fourth on SU's career assists list (3,271), moving past Amber Schmerfeld (3,229 from 2002-04).
Senior
Gabriella Johnson led all players with 16 kills, swinging .217 on a match-high 46 attempts. She added eight digs and two aces. Senior
Kendall Johnson crunched 12 kills and hit .280.
Senior
Samantha Webber totaled 11 kills and hit .333. Webber (1,253 career kills) is now two kills shy of equaling Colleen Toomey (2006-09) for fourth all-time in Raider history.
Junior
Gianna Sigado notched her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs. Sigado served two aces.
Senior
Megan Forstburg had 13 digs and three of SU's nine aces. Two of those aces came on a seven-point service run early in the fourth set which gave the Raiders an 8-1 lead that proved insurmountable.
Junior
Alana Pergine again proved pivotal off the bench, slamming five kills and hitting .267. Freshman
Rachel Verhoef added three kills. Redshirt-freshman
Syera McCormick had seven digs.
Shippensburg hosts Millersville at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Marauders are fresh off a five-set win Friday night at Shepherd.
