SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team put forth an excellent effort against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rival East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night but could not get past the visiting Warriors, falling 3-1 from David See Field.
Shippensburg (4-5, 2-5 PSAC East) generated myriad offensive chances, finishing with a 9-6 edge in shots-on-goal and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks over East Stroudsburg (5-2, 4-2). Mauri Jackson made eight saves for the Warriors to neutralize several of the Raider chances.
Senior
Izzy Weigel scored her third goal of the season in the 64th minute to get the Raiders on the board, slamming home a free-kick pass from junior
Mara Bowman. Among many strong first-half chances included freshman
Emma Oberholtzer taking a pass from freshman
Alyse Caffrey and sending a shot past Jackson that snuck off the near post.
ESU was opportunistic in achieving its three goals. Corryn Gamber capitalized off a pair of misplays in the goal box to score the first and third goals of the evening for the visitors, while their second goal was a raised shot high into the left part of the goal.
Junior
Delaney Shifflett made two saves in 66 minutes of action before being relieved by sophomore
Kasey Doss – who finished with one save.
The Eastern Division road for Shippensburg remains difficult, as the Raiders return to action at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at No. 12 West Chester.
