MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team used an 8-0 run in the final four minutes on Wednesday to pull away from home-standing Millersville and achieve a 75-66 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory over the Marauders, snapping a two-game losing skid at Pucillo Gymnasium for the Raiders.
Shippensburg (13-3, 7-1 PSAC) tied a season high with 12 three-pointers, marking the fifth game this season the Raiders achieved the feat. SU shot 48 percent (12-of-25) from long range and 50 percent from the field overall, as five players finished the game with eight or more points.
Junior
John Castello scored a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. He also added a game-high nine rebounds. It was his third game this season and the seventh time in his career that Castello exceeded the 20-point mark.
Senior
Antonio Kellem scored 16 points, making 3-of-7 from three-point range, to complement five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore
Jake Biss scored 10 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Biss has posted double figures in 15-of-16 games this season.
Junior
Lamar Talley had eight points and five rebounds, while redshirt-freshman
Dom Sleva had a strong game off the bench with 11 points and four rebounds on 3-of-4 shooting (including 2-of-2 from three-point range). Sleva posted double figures for the fourth time this season.
Millersville (7-7, 3-4) did not relent after Shippensburg opened the game on a 21-7 run in which it made 8-of-11 from the field to start the game. The Marauders, who hit 10 three-pointers, were within two possessions of the Raiders for the majority of the second half, including multiple one-point deficits, but never pried the lead away from Shippensburg in the second half.
